Description
Tupac Amaru Shakur was an American rap artist. His FBI file consists of a 1997 investigation into death threats made against Shakur by a domestic terrorist group, the Southside Crips. The investigation was conducted in hopes of solving Tupac’s September 1996 murder. On September 7, 1996, Shakur and others attended a boxing match in Las Vegas. After leaving, Suge Knight, the CEO of Death Row Records and Shakur’s manager, spotted Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of the Southside Crips. Some months earlier, Anderson and his gang had assaulted and robbed a member of Shakur’s entourage. This resulted in a violent brawl. After leaving the scene, Shakur left to rendezvous with Knight and others at a nightclub. Around 11:10 PM, Shakur stood up through the sunroof of his black sedan to chat with two women in a nearby club. Moments later, a white Cadillac pulled up with an unknown number of occupants inside. Rapidly fired shots hit Shakur in the chest, pelvis, hand and thigh. Following the murder, authorities were unsure who was involved in the event. The FBI investigated the matter, interviewing and researching each of the members of the Southside Crips. Today, the case remains unsolved, but the best-supported theory remains that members of the Crips were involved.
